Description

I read, recently, that the median price for a single family home has now reached around $770,000 in San Mateo County, where Palo Alto is. Homeowners nearly all turned into millionaires, if they don't owe it to the bank.

Never before has there been such unprecedented wealth among upper middle class, but where do the regular people live? In places like Palo Alto, they can be invisible.

I met one average looking guy who showed me all the stuff in his van. He's living there.

He thought I was living a similar life with all the stuff on my bike. I said, "no, that's just my RV." Here in Bellingham, I do, live in one room plus a bathroom.

This man was neatly dressed. He looked like he could have been a professor at Stanford.

His van had some miniature high tech gear, like cell phones and a lap top computer. Compact radio is shown in this picture above the bed. The microelectronics of modern times can facilitate compact living, but ironically, American homes usually grow larger.

How big is your footprint?

We talked quite a while about several things including how future generations may have to live as the world gets more crowded.
