NEW TRACK CONSTRUCTION ON MAIN STREET. POUGHKEEPSIE INCREASES in traffic and a debilitated condition ofexisting track led the Poughkeepsie & WappingersFalls Railway to reconstruct and double track its lineon Main Street, Poughkeepsie, from Cherry Street toGrand Avenue, a distance of 3,600 ft. With the single-track construction a headway of eight minutes wasmaintained during the daytime and one of six minutesduring rush hours. This interval could not be decreased, due to the location of turnouts. The track had beenbuilt in 1893, of 60-lb. A. S. C. E. rail, at the time thatthe road was changed from horsecar to electric oper-ation. (See the Street Railway Journal for Novem-ber, 1894.) The pavement was brick on a concretefoundation. A clause in the companys franchise made approvalby the city necessary for all track construction in pavedstreets. The standard of the company for this type ofconstruction was 7-in., 70-lb. plain girder rail, withcontinuous joints, treated wood ties and 8 in
