t important attempt in thiscountry to collect street railway revenue on anythinglike a logical and scientific basis, and the operation ofthe system has attracted a great deal of attention. Thetheories and data upon which it was based, together withcomplete details of its methods of operation, were fullydescribed in the Electric Railway Journal at the timethe system was inaugurated. It is felt, however, thata brief review of the original plan of working, thechanges that have been made, and present operatingmethods is of especial interest at this time in view ofthe tendency toward zone fares. The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Companyoperates more than 400 miles of urban, suburban andinterurban lines in the vicinity of Milwaukee. Theprincipal suburban communities .are Fox Point, WhiteFish Bay, Shorewood, North Milwaukee, Wauwatosa,West Allis, Cudahay and South Milwaukee.
