ther featureworth noting is the report that the continuous woodenstringer type of construction has given the best serviceof the three types of construction under test. It leadsus back to the old horse-car and early electric railwaydays, when the wood stringer was used almost uni-versally to support the rails. The experiments in question will be followed withgreat interest, not only by steam road engineers butalso by those interested in electric railways, particularlybecause it is reported that the new types of constructionhave so far been maintained for about 5 per cent of themaintenance cost of adjacent tracks of regular ballastedconstruction, on the same line, under the same trafficand built at the same time. It would seem thatsuch a saving in maintenance will justify the addedcost for the new construction, although we have no in-formation as to the cost, which must have been at leastthree or four times as great as regular ballasted track. 218 Electric Railway Journal Vol. 53, No. 5
