During the off-peakhours enormous quantities of merchandise could be han-dled over the elevated and surface lines to and from theheart of the city by these interurban systems withoutany inconvenience or annoyance to the public. The present elevated lines are used for passengertraffic only, and their economic value could be increasedvery considerably by their use for express and freightservice.
