The Cannon-Ball Express, previously mentioned, isa through freight service from Indianapolis to Warsawand, in fact, to Benton Harbor, Mich. This servic eismaintained by a trailer loaded for Indianapolis, leavingBenton Harbor at night and going via the SouthernMichigan Railway to Goshen. At this point a Winona interurban motor car picks it up and proceeds to Peru,where it generally picks up a Union Traction Companytrailer. By the time the train reaches Indianapolis,therefore, it is a regular three-car freight train. Re-turn service is given from Indianapolis in similar man-ner, the train leaving at approximately 6 p. m. The ser-vice has been noteworthy in many respects, especiallyin the transportation of perishable commodities. The work on this plan has temporarily been held upon account of the inability of civic authorities to settleon a definite scheme for financing the general improve-ment of transportation in Cincinnati. This conditionhas restricted the development of interurbans in thesurrounding territory, owing to the city system beingbroad gage and not standard.
