Notable among these was thearrangement provided in several trail cars and inthe Cleveland center-entrance cars of 1914, in whichthe individual entrance and exit doors were sepa-rated by a panel 36 in. wide. This provided clearlydefined lines for the entering and outgoing pas-sengers even to a greater extent than existed inthe Brooklyn and Washington designs; but that itdid not eliminate the congestion altogether is ex-emplified by the fact that during the year 1914 thegrowth of the plain center-entrance design becamealmost stationary. At that time, in fact, sentimentappeared to be decidedly against the center door, al-though admittedly it provided an excellent solutionfor many of the problems of trail-car design andalso for the utilization of old equipment—a subjectwhich may best be discussed in a later paragraph.
