all. The middle bay constitutes the repair shop and machine shop;the repair shop occupies the west end, while the machine shopis located in the east end. There are three tracks in this shop.Two stub tracks lead in from the west end and one track runsthrough the shop. These tracks have repair pits 24 in. deepoccupying one-half of the length of the shop, sothat nine cars may be handled at one time for general repairs.The east end of this bay is used as a machine shop. A wheellathe, boring mill and wheel press are located at the extremeend with four short tracks for wheel storage just outside thebuilding. These machines are provided with individual motordrive. A 20-ton traveling crane runs the entire length of the buildingin this bay and is used for lifting cars, trucks and motors, alsofor handling wheels and axles and heavy work around the ma-chines. The crane runway is of sufficient height to permittrucks to be lifted and moved over the tops of the car bodies. TV 1 f« ( 11 \ 5C Ml »J

ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL. io53 The lighting- in this shop is the same as in the inspection shedexcept that the ceiling clusters have ten lights instead of fouron account of the increased height required by the crane. The paint shop occupies the west end of the south bay, theother end being utilized for a storeroom, lavatory, substation,etc. There are four tracks in the paint shop, one of which runsthrough the east wall and parallels the storehouse loadingplatform. The paint shop will hold twelve cars. Portablescaffolds set in the floor may be located at any point along-side the cars and at any desired height required for paint-ing. The paint shop is heated with hot air forced through ducts .. To Ahmeda Ferry In addition to the main shop building there are three smallconcrete buildings, the boiler house, blacksmith shop and motor-mans headquarters.
