English: Houston Belt and Terminal Railway Bridge over Buffalo Bayou, Houston, Texas. This photo, taken inside the gearbox, on the upstream side of the bridge, reflects a similar setup on the downstream side, and shows both ends of what happens inside the gearbox.
The electric motor, one of two is connected by a shaft to a system of gears to the right of this photo, that transfers power to the gear at the left, which is directly connected by a shaft to the pinion, just on the other side of the gearbox wall.
