Description |
Aftermath of the Battle of Huamachuco (1883). The battle was fought between forces from Chile and Peru. The "repase" was the practice of ensuring the death of the enemy by stabbing fallen opponents with bayonets; it also included the killing of wounded soldiers in the battlefield. The image depicts a Chilean soldier about to conduct a "repase" while a rabona, the fallen soldier's aide (probably his wife), attempts to stop him. |
