Summary[edit]
DescriptionEgypt and the Nile River (MODIS 2017-09-26).jpg |
English: At 4,135 miles (6,650 km) long, the Nile ranks as the longest river on Earth. From its two primary sources, one in Lake Victoria and one in Lake Tana, the Nile flows through northward through nine African nations before spilling into the Mediterranean Sea: Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and, finally, Egypt.
On September 23, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite acquired this true-color image of the green Nile River as it flows through southern Egypt. The bright green of the river valley against the otherwise tan and arid lands of Egypt illustrates the power of water to bring desert to life. |
