Fasciola hepatica, commonly known as the liver fluke, is a parasitic trematode worm that primarily affects the liver of various mammals, including humans. Its life cycle involves two hosts: a primary mammalian host and an intermediate snail host.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Morphology of Fasciola hepatica Egg:

Shape & Size: The eggs are oval or ellipsoidal in shape. They typically measure about 130–150 µm in length and 60–90 µm in width. Color: They are yellow-brown in color. Shell: The egg has a thick, smooth shell. Contents: Within the shell, there's a miracidium (an immature form of the parasite) which can be seen in a mature egg.

Operculum: One distinctive feature of the egg is the small operculum (a cap-like structure) present at one end. This operculum allows the miracidium to exit when the egg hatches in an aquatic environment.
