Published by the Associated Cartoon Service. Artwork by Edwin F. Brotze.Edgar Ames (1868-1944) was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from Yale University in 1890. He worked in banking and finance in St. Louis, until moving to Seattle in 1895 to manage the Seattle & Lake Washington Waterway Company on the project of filling the tide lands in Seattle harbor. Subsequently he went to work as president of the Seattle General Contract Company, which oversaw many extensive harbor improvements in the Seattle area. He was also the director of the State Bank of Seattle, the Northwestern Expanded Metal Company of Chicago, and various other companies. In 1909, he married Mrs. Anne Sheldon whom with he had one daughter.
