Boy To Fly Across U.S. Aims to Upset Record Made by Goldsborough, Who Died in Crash. Westfield, New Jersey; July 29, 1930 (Associated Press) Eddie Schneider, an 18 year old Jersey City high school graduate, will attempt to set a new junior transcontinental airplane speed record next month, flying to San Francisco and return. He will to beat the marks of the late Frank Goldsborough, who also started from Westfield Airport. Young Schneider, an experienced pilot with 275 hours to his credit and a limited commercial pilot's license, recently made a nonstop flight from Wichita, Kansas, to New York in 9 hours and 20 minutes.
