Summary[edit]

Description The magnitude of a solar eclipse, as defined by the Bureau des Longitudes, is the ratio of a) the line connecting the centers of the Sun and the Moon and extending from that limb of the Sun which is closer to the center of the Moon to that limb of the Moon which is closer to the center of the Sun, and b) the diameter of the Sun (see J. Meeus: Mathematical Astronomy Morsels III, Richmond 2004, ch. 20)

This space image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Eclipse Magnitude.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
