Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Eastrington Ponds Nature Reserve, Eastrington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Looking north from a birdwatchers' hide on one of the ponds by the dismantled Hull & Barnsley Railway line, west of Eastrington. There was a brickworks here from the 1840s until the 1960s, after which the site was used as a council rubbish tip before being turned into the Eastrington Ponds Nature Reserve. The Hull & Barnsley Railway opened in 1885 but didn't survive for very long. Services on the H&BR west of South Howden station were withdrawn from 1932 and the regular service between Hull and South Howden ended in 1955, although some excursion traffic continued to use the line for a further three years or so. A stretch of disused railway embankment now forms one of the pathways through the reserve.
