| Description |
The engine is marked MAW. That it was found in Magdeburg is significant because the MAW Fahrradanbaumotor was made there by the VEB Messegeräte und Armaturenwerke Karl Marx in Magdeburg Buckau. There is some information about AMO and MAW cycle motors in English in this site which states that these motors were produced here between 1954 and 1959. The tell-tale pool of oil on the pavement indicates that this bike was often left here. The engine was 50cc ....lots of nice pictures and date on that site. Known in common parlance as the Hühnerschreck or chicken scarer (thanks to @H.-D.N. , see below) See here for a different view on Black and White FP4 film rather than colour slide. |
