Title
Early Medieval Sword
Description
English: An Early Medieval Iron sword that has been broken into three pieces during recovery. The sword has a copper alloy trapezoidal pommel which is 47.9mm wide and 15.4mm high. There are signs of organic material on the rectangular grip although corrosion prevents seeing it clearly. The grip is 111.7mm long 26.4mm wide and 11.4mm thick. There appears to be a separate hilt but is there is too much dirt and corrosion to be certain. It appears that there is organic scabbard material still present around the hilt but it is not possible to tell what material this is. The blade is 58.9mm wide at the hilt amd 15.1mm thick. The blade tapers towards the point before terminating 790mm from the hilt. One side of the pint was broken off during recovery and is recorded separately. What remains of the point is 5.4mm wide. There appears to be a raised central rib running down the centre of the blade.
