Title
ESS-E16616 Medieval harness pendant
Description
English: Medieval cast copper alloy horse harness pendant, with suspension mount attached. The mount is sub-rectangular with a curved upper edge, and the lower edge is split into two arms with circular terminals to secure the pendant. There is a large rivet projecting from the reverse of the mount with a rectangular cross section. The pendant is shield shaped with a rectangular projecting arm at its apex, connecting it to the suspension mount. The upper surface of the pendant is decorated with a left facing, prancing horse with raised tail. This design is enamelled, the colour now appearing off white. The reverse is plain and undecorated. The pendant and mount are dark red-brown in colour, with small flecks of gilding surviving. The total length is 45.11mm. The main body if the pendant is 27.04mm long, 20.63mm wide, 2.24mm thick. The suspension mount is 15.24mm long, 9.19mm wide, 5.84mm thick, with the rivet being 6.68mm long, 4.98mm wide, 4.38mm thick. It weighs 9.58 grams.
