Description |
English: Photographer William H. Wilcox settled in Tacoma in 1890 and moved to Port Townsend in 1897. Until his death in 1940, he photographed family, friends, homes, boats, buildings, and street scenes, recording a half-century of changes in everyday life.
In this 1891 photo, probably taken in Tacoma, E. R. York's child gazes out of its wicker carriage. The baby wears a fir-trimmed collar and a decorated bonnet and is warmly surrounded by blankets. A lace-trimmed parasol shades the baby from the sun. The photographer didn't record whether the baby was a boy or a girl. At that time, very young boys and girls were dressed alike.
