Summary

Description

Christ Church Cathedral, High Street, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland

English: Floor tiles in the nave which have been reproduced by Craven Dunnill of Jackfield, Ironbridge, after medieval tiles which were recovered from the nave. The arrangement of the tiles follows the design by the architect George Edmund Street. (See p. 369 in Roger Stalley: George Edmund Street and the Restoration in Christ Church Cathedral: A History, ISBN 1-85182-487-1.) The four tiles in the centre are close to the design T77 according to Eames and Fanning. T77 consists of an 8-foil and a crescent. Here, the crescents have been replaced by bands which in this 4-tile pattern create a quatrefoil.
