Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Drystone walling on Inishmore Most of the walls on the Atlantic (South-western) side of Inishmore are built of slabs taken from the limestone pavement. They are then laid against each other in a seemingly haphazard way that is actually very strong, the holes are left intentionally to allow the onshore gales to blow through rather than against the wall. Having been a drystone waller in Yorkshire this seemed to me to be a very unique way of walling.
