Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Illustration by Poul Steffensen from the Danish novel Dronningens Vagtmester by Carit Etlar which takes place during the Dano-Swedish War in 1658-1660. Svend Poulsen, Gøngehøvdingen, Ib Abelsøn most of the gønger have come to Copenhagen which is under siege by the Swedish forces. Ib Abelsøn i busy in the defense with building new entrenchments and disturbing the enemy. He call himself the Queen's Officer and becomes nearly as known as Queen Sophie Amalie herself. She and King Frederik III rides around on the ramparts every day. Queen Sophie Amalie (1628-1685) and King Frederik III (1609-1670) both stayed in Copenhagen during the siege so the situation with the two of them in the drawing may indeed have taken place.
