Notes Mrs Joyce received this doll in 1920 when she was aged 2. At the time she was living with her family in Sidcup, Kent, UK, and the doll was a gift from an elderly couple who lived nearby but had no children of their own. It was a much treasured possession and was one of the items brought to New Zealand when she and her husband migrated here from Kent, UK, circa 1980. She and her husband had come to New Zealand to visit their son who had been offered work in New Zealand as a computer analyst in 1978. Within 12 months they had returned to the UK, sold up, and migrated to New Zealand. They had 1-3 of a container and had to limit what they brought out and selected only things that they really treasured, including the doll. The doll is wearing original shoes and socks, but the dress, hat and underwear are replacements made by a friend who also restrung the doll, circa 2000 The doll was restrung and reclothed by a friend c. 2000
