| Description |
English: The Brokopondo district is located in the north between 3.95° and 5.33° N and in the west between 54.74° and 55.55° W. The district is centrally located in Suriname and borders the Para district to the north, while it borders the Sipaliwini district to the west, south and east. The reservoir, which was constructed in the early 1960s for the generation of white coal, is very prominent. The lake has an area of approximately 1,560 square kilometers.
The Brokopondo district has a total area of 7,386 km2 and is divided into 6 administrative districts: Kwakoegron, Marchallkreek, Klaaskreek, Centrum, Brownsweg, Sarakreek. The main town of the district is the village of Brokopondo, located on the Suriname River, in the Centrum resort. The District Commissioner and other government services are located here. Het stuwmeer, dat in het begin van de jaren zestig is aangelegd ten behoeve van de opwekking van witte steenkool, is zeer prominent aanwezig. Het meer heeft een oppervlakte van circa 1.560 vierkante kilometers.
Het district Brokopondo heeft een totale oppervlakte van 7.386 km2 en is onderverdeeld in 6 administratieve ressorten: Kwakoegron, Marchallkreek, Klaaskreek, Centrum, Brownsweg, Sarakreek. De hoofdplaats van het district is het dorp brokopondo, gelegen aan de Suriname rivier, in het ressort Centrum. Hier zetelt de Districtscommissaris en zijn de overige overheidsdiensten gevestigd.
