Distillation apparatus for the determination of free volatile fatty acids

Summary[edit]

Description
English: A mixture of freed fatty acids (e.g. butter lixived with alcoholic potash and then acidified with sulphuric acid) is distilled from a round-bottom flask A. Through a pipe C with a glass bubble B to stop any sulfuric acid droplets, a distillate containing volatile fatty acids is collected, filtered and titrated with a base. The distillation yields 100 mL of liquid in around 40'.
