Description
Español: DISTANCIA AL SOL POR EL TRÁNSITO DE VENUS (también aplicable en los tránsitos de Mercurio).

Edmund Halley en 1716 propone una medición aproximadamente precisa de la distancia Tierra-Sol teniendo en cuenta el tránsito de Venus, método basado en el del matemático James Gregory según su obra "Optica Promota" publicada en 1663.

Pi es la paralaje de Venus es decir el angulo formado por el "cambio de posición" de Venus sobre el disco solar. Tal ángulo tiene una "linea de base" correspondiente a la distancia lineal entre los dos observadores.

La excentricidad de la órbita de Venus es de 0.00677 y la de la Tierra es de 0.0167, ambas casi órbitas circulares, es por ello que la medida Tierra-Sol es aproximada a la Unidad Astronómica de 149.597.871 kms.
