Early wood-cut map of the Rheinstrom (Rhineland) embracing the area between Namur, Bonn, Amsterdam and Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Westward oriented. The map was published in Cosmographia by Sebastian Münster. Cosmogrphia was first published in 1544 in German and was translated in many other languages until the early 17th century. Verso an ornament of two knight holding a coat of arms consisting of a hand pointing at a candle.

Diß ist die dritte Tafel des Rheinſtroms/darinn zu ſehen/wie er von Cöln hinab im/Niderlandt durchs Biſthumb Cöln/Weſtphalen/Cleui/Gellern vn[d] Hollandt/ſich in die / See ergeußt/vnd neben ihme die Maſe von Namur hinab auff Lüttich in die See fleußt.

Es theilet ſich aber alhie der Rhein in zwen theil vnderhalb Emmerich/Der eine theil / verleurt ſein Namen/vnd wird die Wael genannt/laufft neben der Maſe auff Newme- / gen/vnd fallt oberhalb der Statt Gorckum in die See.

Caption bottom right:

Der ander Arm des Rheins fleußt fort/vnd theilt / ſich bey Arnheim/der ein theil heißt die Yſel/fleußt / auff Deventer vn[d] bey Campen in die Sudder See. / Der ander Strange behelt den nammen Thein biß / gen Wagening/da nennen ihn etlich die / Leck. Es flieſſen dem’ Rhein- / ſtrom zu 62. andere / Waſſer.
