Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Haig inspecting troops, Bergues, France, 1917. This shows Field Marshal (Earl) Haig (1861-1928) saluting as French troops march past on parade. Two French generals stand behind him. This is one of several photographs apparently taken during a parade to honour French troops. It probably relates to action during the early part of the Third Battle of Ypres. The photograph has a French press stamp.

Ceremonies of this sort were important to try to cement the often difficult relations between the different Allied armies.
[Original reads: 'Aout 1917 - Bergues(?) Nord - Defile des troupes devant le Mal. Douglas Haig.']
