Description

New Orleans: Postcard view of Canal Street in the early years of the 20th century.

View taken from a roof or high window on the downriver side of Canal riverwards from Chartres, looking lakewards and up. Intersection of Camp Street seen left of center. White high-rise of Gruenewald Hotel seen a few blocks back. Red and green trams of various streetcar lines along neutral ground.
Date Not dated. c 1901 (not-visible Henry Clay statue was removed 1900; Morris Building rebuilt with bay windows in 1901) - 1915; lack of any motorcars suggests the earlier part of that range.
