DescriptionDesvoeuxchater1912.jpg |
Des Voeux Road Central, Central District, Hong Kong Island, c.1912. The junction with Chater Road is in the foreground, while Pedder Street is on the right between the General Post Office, completed in 1912 (upper right), and Union Building (just visible, lower right). On the left a portion of the Hong Kong Hotel (later Gloucester Building) is visible opposite the imposing premises of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Two single-deck tramcars are moving in opposite directions (the double-deckers were introduced in 1912 but without totally replacing the single-deckers). |
