al School has had a band. Over thirtystudents enrolled for the work this year. A good grade of music was studied,including standard marches, overtures, and operatic selections. The band fur-nished music for numerous occasions, such as athletic meets, all out-of-doorprograms and participated in the big annual concert. The faculty latelyvoted to obtain uniforms for the band. This means a decided improvement, andthe work next year bids fair to far surpass the splendid achievements of thepast two years. Following is the personnel and instrumentation of the band: Flute—Gladys Robertson. Oboe—W. T. Austin. Clarinets—Prof. Webb, George Simmons, Mertice Norris. Saxophones—J. Lee Austin, Yadis Norris, Gertrude Austin. Cornets—Willie White, Lamar Gough, Joe Austin, Gordon Turner. Horns—John McDowell, Coy Anderson. Trombone—Prof. Wilson, Tom Foster. Baritone—Roll in Wilson. Q< Normal ^riinol (©rrl^stra. The class in orchestral music has numbered above forty this year. Thestudents showed great interest in this work and made very satisfactory progress.The better class of music was studied—scarcely no attention being paid to therag variety. The orchestra furnished music for all important student func-tions, dramatic performances, special assembly-hour exercises, besides takingan important part in the Annual Concert, and also giving concerts in the cityof Memphis. In addition to the regular orchestral work a string quartet wasorganized and met with much favor. By adding two or three more instrumentsand increasing the membership some, an orchestra of symphonic proportionsis hoped for next year. Following is the membership: Director—L. C. Austin.First Violins—Mertice Norris (concertmeister), Katherine Herd, Elizabeth Follis, Coy Anderson, Mrs. L. C. Austin.Second Violins—Helen Wilson, Obera Culpepper, Mary Pearson, Valdor McLemore.
