Город Луанда, основанный португальцами в 1575 году, стал административным центром португальской власти в 1627 году, год спустя после составления данной карты. Français : Cette carte manuscrite du XVIIe siècle est une des premières représentations de la ville et du port de Luanda, sur la côte de l'Angola. Fondée par les Portugais en 1575, Luanda est devenue le centre administratif de la domination portugaise en Angola en 1627, un an après que cette carte a été dressée. Le port de Luanda était également au centre de la traite d'esclaves angolaise, contrôlée par l'empire portugais. On considère que cette traite a fourni environ un quart de l'ensemble des esclaves africains envoyés aux Amériques.
English: This 17th-century manuscript map is an early depiction of the harbor and city of Luanda, on the coast of Angola. Founded by the Portuguese in 1575, Luanda became the administrative center of Portuguese rule in Angola in 1627, one year after this map was made. The port of Luanda was also the center of the Angolan slave trade, controlled by the Portuguese Empire, and which is estimated to have supplied around one-quarter of all African slaves sent to the Americas.

Português: Este mapa manuscrito do século XVII é uma representação primitiva do porto e da cidade de Luanda, na costa de Angola. Fundada pelos portugueses em 1575, Luanda tornou-se o centro administrativo do governo português em Angola em 1627, um ano após a elaboração deste mapa. O porto de Luanda era também o centro do tráfico angolano de escravos, controlado pelo Império Português, e que se estima ter fornecido cerca de um quarto de todos os escravos africanos enviados para as Américas.
