Summary[edit]

Description
English: This well known rock carving is a pilgrimage site on the coast of Tamil Nadu, for both devout Hindus and those interested in the Archaeology of India. It is part of a temple complex of intricately carved narratives depicting the mythological landscape of vedic India. The main character, Ganga Devi, is depicted in her human form, descending from the Himalayas to the Indo-gangetic plain. Her presence is understood to bring revival after droughts, and provide the seasonal irrigation that provides sustenance to India's ecosystems.
