Description

Photo of Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge locomotive #268-"Cinder Ella"-from the 1952 film Denver and Rio Grande. The locomotive came to the attention of film makers when the D&RGW brought it to the 1949 Chicago Railroad Fair, and was chosen to appear in the film about the railroad.

This is a Baldwin from circa 1882 whose original use was working at the Colorado silver mines. After filming was finished, the locomotive went back to work hauling coal. After retirement, Ella found a permanent spot at the Pioneer Museum in Gunnison, CO.
Date There is a July 1954 date typed on back, but the film premiered in 1952.
