Summary[edit]

Description
English: Dental pulp stem cells on tissue culture plastic. This is a BSE-image of a lanthanoid-stained sample taken with EVO LS10 scanning electron microscope (Zeiss, Germany) without prior fixation, nor dehydration, nor sputtering (a method developed by BioREE, Russia, with support from the Research Institute of Eye Diseases, Russia). The following structures can be seen: cytoskeleton components, nucleus with nucleoli, and some yet unidentified compounds synthesized by the cell (at the bottom of the image). These compounds have been found impossible to be visualized using common methods of sample preparation as they have too little contrast if the sample is observed under fully hydrated conditions (wet SEM) and dissolve completely if it is fixed.
