Summary
[edit]DescriptionDengler, Roberts & Perna Funeral Home - fmr Kenmore Stamp Company - Kenmore, New York - 20191012.jpg |
English: The building at 3070 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore, New York was built in 1937 as the offices of the Kenmore Stamp Company, a clearinghouse for stamp collectors that spent ten brief but illustrious years headquartered in the town from which it took its name. Founded by former factory owner and avid stamp collector Ernest Greenway Jarvis, Kenmore Stamp built a nationwide clientele buying and selling rare and imported stamps, a business that was decimated amidst the chaos of World War II. Jarvis retired in 1943 and sold the business to Henry Harris, who reestablished the compant in his native Arlington, Massachusetts. The former headquarters has been a funeral home ever since (Bury Funeral Home, an ironic name immortalized in the pages of Ripley's Believe It or Not; later Bury & Roberts, now Dengler, Roberts & Perna). |
