Summary[edit]

Description

Built 5 years after the CLRV streetcar, the ALRV is an extended articulated version of the former. It appears the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) did not want to operate the CLRV as coupled cars and ordered the ALRV. The cars appear mostly similar, when one cannot see the joint and rear wagon, as in this picture. Both CLRV and ALRV are insular solutions, only used in Toronto. Since there is no market for spare parts, maintenance is rather costly. It involves machining of parts in the shop. Luckily only two streetcars have been stripped for parts yet, a CLRV and an ALRV. New Bombardier Flexity trams are introduced now, and soon will make the old fleet obsolete.

The camera used, a Minolta XD, production run ended shortly before these streetcars were built. It was coincident with the CLRV, the model this is based upon. Unfortunately the electronic used for timing shutter and measuring exposure is obsolete and. unlike a CLRV nearly impossible to maintain. Very few are still in working order.

Incidently my own production was coincident with both the CLRV's and the camera's production runs. However, i don't feel quite obsolete yet. Spare parts however are hard to come by, I'm glad i did not need any so far.
