English: Two U.S. Army engineers dig in the gravel approach road at the U.S. Army bridge over the Sava River from Zupania, Croatia, into Bosnia and Herzegovina on Dec. 31, 1995. U.S. Army engineers overcame freezing temperatures, unusual flooding, and other logistical challenges to build the 2,033 foot long bridge, which is longer than the Brooklyn Bridge. More than 1,000 tons of gravel was used to build the approaches to the bridge. The bridge has become one of the primary routes for the NATO Implementation Force (IFOR) deployment into Bosnia and Herzegovina for Operation Joint Endeavor. |
