Summary[edit]

Description
English: Conformal diagram of de Sitter space. Each point in the diagram (except the vertical sides, the "poles") corresponds to a 2-sphere (for a 4-dimensional de Sitter space). I+ and I- are the future and past infinities.
  • The blue lines are light rays sent by an observer static in the north pole. The red lines are light rays received by this observer.
  • The area covered by "blue" light rays is the portion of spacetime that an observer departing from the north pole in the remote past (left bottom vertex) can access to and influence. This portion of space is the one covered by the "expanding" FRW patch for a dark energy-dominated universe.
  • The area covered by "red" light rays is the portion of spacetime that an observer arriving to the north pole in the remote future (left upper vertex) can be influenced by and come from. This portion of space is the one covered by the "contracting" FRW patch for a dark energy-dominated universe.
  • The intersection of the two areas, within the black diagonals, is the portion of de Sitter space covered by the static patch.
I+ e I- son los infinitos futuro y pasado.
