They can normally be spotted patrolling the streets of Sutton Coldfield, but this weekend two officers from Birmingham North LPU are taking to the streets of London and Brighton. But there will be no time for sightseeing or sunbathing on the beach as the officers are taking part in a sponsored cycle from the capital to the south coast. PC Wayne Brown and PCSO Simon Latham are cycling the 54 miles on Sunday to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. And in the months building up to the event the officers’ hours of training have already paid off as they have raised nearly £500 – smashing their individual targets. Commenting on the event, PCSO Latham said: “As part of my work as a PCSO I often travel around the New Hall area of Sutton New Hall on my bike but I certainly don’t think I’ve covered over 50 miles in a day. “But both on and off duty I’ve been jumping on my bike and getting in as much training as possible for Sunday.” PC Brown added: “We’d both like to thank our friends, family and colleagues who have supported us during the months of preparation, and those who have generously donated to such a great cause. This will give us a big boost when the pedalling gets tough and the legs get a little tired.” |
