Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Daniel Miller House, 134 Best Street, Buffalo, New York, March 2021. A fine example of the Italianate style that was nearing the end of its period of prominence in American residential architecture at the time of the house's construction (1886), the façade is symmetrical and characterized by rows of identical round-arched windows, while the rather steeply-pitched front-gabled roof is supported by a pair of rather modestly ornate end brackets carved in a sunburst motif. The shed-roofed front porch has had its woodwork replaced with wrought iron, but the pediment above the front steps still retains a good deal of its original detail, faced in decorative shingles and undergirded by brackets and a dentil row. The longtime owner of the house was, of course, Daniel Miller (1857-1921), a self-employed paving contractor who lived in the house until his death, and about whom little biographical information is available.
