Description Lt(JG) Hugh N. Batten from Fighter Squadron 91 (VF-91) "Red Lightnings" lands his damaged Grumman F9F-2 Panther (BuNo 123615) aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CVA-47) after it was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire on 12 July 1953. The plane's nose covering has been entirely torn away. VF-91 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 9 (CVG-9) aboard the Philippine Sea for a deployment to the Western Pacific and Korea from 15 December 1952 to 14 August 1953.
