Deutsch: Wappen der ehemaligen Bürgermeisterei Stoppenberg, seit 1929 Stadtteil von Essen: „ In Silber (Weiß) über einem grünen Dreiberg ein durchgehendes rotes Kreuz, darin vier goldene (gelbe) Kugeln im Verhältnis 1:2:1.“ Das Wappen wurde von Kurt Schweder entworfen und hatte nie offiziellen Charakter. Ende der 1980er Jahre schuf der Heraldiker für alle Essener Stadtteile Wappen. Sie sind inzwischen von der Essener Bevölkerung gut angenommen worden. Die ursprüngliche Namen "Stophenberch" und "Stouffenberge" deuten auf eine Bezeichnung für einen Stufenberg ("redend" - Dreiberg). Das rote Kreuz gilt als Hinweis auf das adelige Damenstift und die Stiftskirche St. Nikolaus. Die vier goldenen Kugeln stehen für die ehemaligen Gemeinden der Bürgermeisterei Stoppenberg, Schonnebeck, Katernberg, Rotthausen und Stoppenberg selbst.English: „Argent, above a triple mountain vert a continuous cross gules, charged with four bezants in ratio 1:2:1.“
The arms were drawn by Kurt Schweder who designed coats of arms for all districts of Essen in die 1980s; they were never official used, but meanwhile recognized by the citizens of Essen and its districts. The triple mountain is canting "Stoppenberg" means a mountain with steps. The cross gules symbolises the chapter of nuns and the collegiate church of Saint Nicholas. The four bezants stand for the former municipalties of the "Bürgermeisterei" Stoppenberg. |
