Deutsch: Wappen der ehemaligen Stadt Steele, seit 1929 Stadtteil von Essen: „In Gold (Gelb) drei in sich verschlungene schwarze Ringe.“ Das Wappen ist abgeleitet vom einem Siegel aus dem Jahre 1578. Es bezieht sich auf die Schmiedegilde, welche zu dieser Zeit stark in Steele vertreten war. Der Schutzpatron dieser Gilde ist der hl. Eligius, dessen Attribut ein Ring ist. Die Farben Gold und Schwarz stehen für Feuer und Eisen. English: „Or, three in each other engulfed rings sable.“
The arms were granted on November 26, 1937. The three rings were the 16th century quality mark of the local smithies. The ring is the attribut of the patron saint of the blacksmiths, Saint Eligius; the colours Or and sable symbolise fire and iron. In 1578 Elisabeth, Abbess of Essen and Countess of Manderscheid und Blankenheim, granted the use of the rings on the local seal. |
