Description
Deutsch: Wappen der ehemaligen Bauerschaft Schonnebeck, seit 1929 Stadtteil von Essen:
„In Rot ein rechtsschräger goldener (gelber) Wellenbalken darüber eine schräglinks liegende silberne (weiße) Pferdepramme und darunter ein silberner (weißer) sechszackiger Stern.“

Das Wappen wurde von Kurt Schweder entworfen und hatte nie offiziellen Charakter. Ende der 1980er Jahre schuf der Heraldiker für alle Essener Stadtteile Wappen. Sie sind inzwischen von der Essener Bevölkerung gut angenommen worden.

Alte Namen sind "Schonenbeke" und "Sconenbeke". Das Wappen zeigt im roten Felde einen Bach (-beck -"redendes Wappen"); die Pferdepramme oder Pferdebremse und der Stern stammen aus dem Wappen der Herren von der Porten zu Dyc, auch von Portendieck genannt. Sie hatten in Schonnebeck ein festes Haus und Güterbesitz.

English: „Gules, a bend wavy Or above a hempbreak Argent sinister and below a six rays star Argent.“

The arms were drawn by Kurt Schweder who designed coats of arms for all districts of Essen in die 1980s; they were never official used, but meanwhile recognized by the citizens of Essen and its districts.

The arms are canting; the river stands for "-beck (Bach)" and the star for "Schonne-" (schön - that means " nice village by the small river"). The star is also derived from the arms of the powerful family Porten zu Dyc or Portendieck together with the hempbreak.
