Object history
English: The coat of arms was designed by Kurt Schweder and never had an official character. At the end of the 1980s, the heraldist created coats of arms for all Essen districts. They have since been well received by the people of Essen.
Schönebeck comes from "Sconenbeke" (place by the beautiful brook) and has only been documented since 1795. The coat of arms is canting: the sun stands for "Schöne-" (nice) and the wavy bar for "-beck" (a brook).
