Deutsch: Wappen der ehemaligen Bürgermeisterei Kray-Leithe, seit 1929 Stadtteil von Essen: „Geteilt in Rot und Gold (Gelb), durch einen nach unten verschobenen blauen Balken, belegt mit zwei silbernen (weißen) Rosen; oben auf einem goldenen (gelben) Hügel eine schwarze Krähe mit silbernem (weißem) Schnabel, unten drei braune Pferdeprammen im Verhältnis 2:1. Im Oberwappen über einer gebogenen sandsteinfarbenen Mauer, fünf Zinnen mit roten Dächern.“ Die Krähe ist ein redendes Symbol; Kray leitet sich aus dem altsächsischen Creia - Krähe ab. Die Rosen und die Pferdeprammen stammen aus dem Wappen der Herren von Leithe. Das fünfzinnige Oberwappen ist ungewöhnlich, da es normalerweise nur Großstädten verliehen wurde. English: „Party gules per downwards placed fess azure charged with two roses Argent and Or; above on a hill Or a crow sable with a beak Argent, below three hempbreaks tawny in ratio 2:1; above the shield a five-fold embattled mural crown sandstone coloured with roofs gules.“
The crow is canting - "Kray means "crow". The roses and hempbreakes are derived from the arms of the Lords of Leithe. The five fold embattled mural crown is seldom, because these crowns normaly awarded to major cities. |
