Object history
Deutsch: Die Herrschaft über den Ort fiel als österreichisches Lehen zu Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts an das elsässische Geschlecht der Herren von Rappoltstein. 1613 verkauften diese ihre Rechte an die Johanniter in Heitersheim. 1806 wurde Eschbach badisch. Noch bis in die ersten Jahre der Zugehörigkeit zum Großherzogtum Baden siegelte die Gemeinde mit einem umschriftlosen Typar, das allein das Johanniterkreuz enthielt, also nicht als Siegel der Gemeinde im engeren Sinne gelten kann. Eigene Siegel führte Eschbach erst im Laufe des 19. Jahrhunderts. Sie zeigten neben schmückendem Beiwerk drei Hufeisen (1:2) ohne Wappenschild. Im Jahre 1900 entschloss sich die Gemeinde, das vom Generallandesarchiv empfohlene, die historischen Herrschaftsverhältnisse widerspiegelnde Wappen anzunehmen. Das Johanniterkreuz ist belegt mit dem Wappenschild der Herren von Rappoltstein.
