Object history |
Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde am 31. März 1971 vom Regierungspräsidenten in Münster verliehen. Das 1595 befestigte ehemalige Wigbold führte keine alten Siegel. Dieses Wappen war das erste überhaupt, welches die Stadt führte. Hirsch und Zweig stammen von einem Gerichtssiegel aus dem späten 18. Jahrhundert. Die Steine im gewellten Schildfuß deuten auf den Ortsnamen und sind demnach "redend". Die drei Kugeln stammen aus dem Wappen des Adelsgeschlechts Walstedde; die gleichnamige Gemeinde wurde 1969 eingemeindet. Die Farben Blau und Silber stammen von den Freiherrn von Recke, welche von 1429 bis Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts in Drensteinfurt ansässig waren. |
